With its colorful culture, flavor-packed food, and beautiful landscapes, there’s no denying Baja California (and all of Mexico for that matter) is a fantastic place to visit. Not for anything, the country is one of the most popular destinations for Americans, and its proximity to San Diego only makes it all the more appealing.

If you’re thinking about traveling to Baja California from San Diego, however, you may be wondering just how to get there. Should you simply walk across the border and take public transportation or ridesharing options once you’re in Mexico? Should you take your own car? Is your car even ready to travel to Mexico?

A good alternative that will help resolve a lot of your problems is renting a Van from All-Star Rent a Van, and because we want to make your trip as easy as possible, we’ve come up with a sort guide that will help you set everything for your next trip to Mexico.

Choose the Right Van

The key to a comfortable road trip is having the right vehicle, which is why at All-Star we offer a fleet of Ford vehicles fully authorized to enter Mexico, all regularly maintained and inspected to keep you safe.

At Rent a Van, we have vans for 11, 12, and 15 passengers, all sizeable enough to comfortably transport people and their belongings. It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling with your family, your friends, or even your coworkers (work retreat, anyone?). With Rent a Van, there will be space to spare.

Book Your Rental

Don’t wait until the last second to book your van! With our online booking process, you’ll be able to book your van in advance, so all you have to do is pick it up and get going. Just visit our website, choose the dates you wish to rent the van for, and you’re good to go. You’ll be able to pay in advance or once you pick up your van.

We take cash, most credit/debit cards, and checks, though keep in mind that the latter need to clear at least a week before your arrival date for your reservation to be respected. Need assistance? Our team is always available to help you with any questions or special requests.

Prepare for your Journey

While our vans are licensed for travel to Mexico, you’re responsible for carrying your documentation, so make sure to pack it with the rest of your belongings. Remember that Mexico is one of the world’s most biodiverse countries, so make sure to do your research about the weather of the place you plan to visit to ensure you’re dressed for the occassion.

If its your first time crossing, there’s no need to be nervous. Just follow the signage and instructions, and have your documentation ready. Remember to declare any items you’re taking into Mexico, and be patient, as the lines can get pretty long.

Explore Baja

Once you’ve crossed the border, it’s time for the good stuff. Tijuana is always a fun place to visit, but if you want to try something different, here are some destinations you may want to consider.

Baja California’s Coasts.

While San Diego is well known for its scenic highways, Baja California doesn’t fall behind. Rosarito, Ensenada, and the stunning Valle de Guadalupe are all a drive away, and you can enjoy the scenic views of the ocean on your way there.

Baja California’s Desert

One of the coolest things about Baja California and Cabo is how the ocean and the desert can coexist. In some parts of the peninsula, you can drive down the road and see both things at once. Make sure to stop at Valle de los Gigantes to go hiking amongst towering cacti and incredible rock formations!

Mexicali

A history-packed city if we’ve ever seen one, Mexicali is full of museums and historic landmarks that any history buff will love to see. Mexicali also has a thriving art scene, so make sure to visit the Sol del Niño museum if you can.
